Peer Review Process
To maintain the quality and credibility of published articles, JIAIS (Jurnal Integrasi Al-Islam dan Sains) implements a gradual, objective, and transparent process of selection and review of manuscripts. All incoming manuscripts will go through several stages of assessment before being declared worthy of publication.
Stage 1: Initial Manuscript Examination
After the manuscript is submitted through the OJS system, the editor will conduct an initial check to ensure that the manuscript has met the basic requirements of the journal. These checks include:
- The manuscript submission free
- Author's Statement Form, which must be filled out to ensure that the manuscript is an original work and prepared in accordance with the ethics of scientific publication.
- Suitability of writing format, including the systematics of the article, the style of the encoding, and the completeness of supporting documents.
- Plagiarism check, using software such as Turnitin to ensure the originality of the manuscript.
- The completeness of the content of the manuscript, such as titles, abstracts, keywords, article content, and bibliography.
This initial check is conducted by the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, or Assistant Editor. Based on the results of the evaluation, the manuscript can:
- rejected at an early stage, or
- forwarded to the Handling Editor for the next process.
Stage 2: Evaluation by Handling Editors
At this stage, the Handling Editor assesses the substance of the manuscript in more depth by considering the following aspects:
- The suitability of the topic, whether the article is in line with the focus and scope of JIAIS, especially the integration of Islamic values sciences.
- The strength of arguments and analysis, including the depth of discussion and the accuracy of the use of theories or concepts.
- Scientific contribution, i.e. the extent to which the article offers new ideas, findings, or viewpoints.
- The accuracy of the method, both empirical research and conceptual studies, is in accordance with scientific principles.
- Adhere to citation style, according to applicable journal guidelines.
- Suitability with journal readers, both academics, researchers, and practitioners.
At this stage, the editor can decide to:
- reject the manuscript,
- ask the author for improvements, or
- Forward the manuscript to the peer review stage.
Stage 3: Peer Review Process (Double-Blind)
Manuscripts that pass the editor's evaluation will be sent to at least two reviewers who have expertise according to the topic of the article. The review process is carried out with a double-blind system, so that the identities of the author and reviewer are kept secret.
Reviewers will rate:
- relevance and novelty of the topic,
- clarity of flow and structure of writing,
- accuracy and up-to-date references,
- the scientific contribution of the article to the development of integrative science of Islam and Muhammadiyah Studies.
The reviewer then provides recommendations in the form of:
- received without improvement,
- received with minor repairs,
- substantial improvements and reviewed,
- recommended to be sent to another journal, or
- rejected.
Stage 4: Post-Review Evaluation
The Handling Editor will study all feedback from the reviewer and submit it to the author for follow-up. If necessary, the revised manuscript may be sent back to the reviewer for reassessment. All decisions are based on reviewer input and journal quality standards.
Stage 5: Final Results
After the entire review and revision process is declared complete, the Editor-in-Chief together with the Editorial Board will make the final decision. The results given can be in the form of:
- accepted for publication, or
- rejected.
Stage 6: Manuscript Editing
At this stage, the author will work closely with the editorial team to ensure the manuscript is ready for publication, including language improvements, consistency of terms, and administrative completeness.
Stage 7: Layout and Proofreading
The manuscript will be formatted by the layout editor according to the journal template. After that, the proofreading process is carried out to ensure that there are no writing errors before the article is published.
Stage 8: Publication
Articles that have passed all stages will be published in open access and can be accessed by the public as part of JIAIS contribution in the development of science that is integrated with Islamic values
