Abstract

ABSTRACT
The objective of this research was to invistigate the improvement of English academic writing
skill through dictogloss teaching technique. It was an action research method conducted at
the International Program of Information Technology Department, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah
Jakarta in 2012. The research was done in two cycles. Each action consisted of four phases of
planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data were collected through observation,
document study and tests. The findings are in qualitative data analysis indicates that in each
cycle the participants did enthusiastically, wrote very good essay reconstruction and were
highly motivated thus learning process run very well. Whereas, in qualitative data analysis
shows the application of dictogloss teaching technique can enhance students’ academic essay
writing skill that proved by students’ result. Post-test in circle I, the score was only 20.93 but
it increased 5 point to 25.27 at the circle II. Means, there were 20 % participants get band >
6 at the circle I and 73 % participants get band > 6 at the circle II.
